Eastern Kentucky University has issued a safety alert following a reported robbery on campus.
A man says two men attacked him, while he was out walking around 4:30 Thursday morning.
The victim tells police he was walking on the sidewalk of Lancaster Ave when two men grabbed him from the other side of a fence, pulled him over, and robbed him.
"It's scary; just thinking things can happen like that in Richmond, and we're out walking late," says Syerra Smith, a student at the university.
The robbery victim tells police the two men assaulted him by hitting and punching him.
"There were no weapons used, according to him," says Marc Whitt with EKU, "He was assaulted, and then according to him, money and other items were taken from him."
The attackers pulled him over a fence running along Lancaster Ave. and into the Elmwood property, owned by EKU. That fence is old, rusty and potentially dangerous.
"It has the sharp points at the top," says Smith, "to think of being pulled over that, I can't imagine."
The victim says he saw the robbers run off toward Oak Street before finding police for help.
NEWSFIRST learned the man didn't suffer any serious injuries, but was roughed up a bit from the attack.
The victim told police his attackers were two black men, both with a medium build. One was was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with baggy jeans. He says the other was heavy set.
