Second grader dies after swing set accident

A young Central Kentucky girl has died after falling off a swing. Caya Davis, 8, suffered a brain injury when she fell late last month, she passed away at UK Hospital Sunday morning.

Caya, a second grader at Daniel Boone Elementary School was playing in her backyard with a friend were told, when the two hit heads while on the same swing.

Shortly after the accident, the child collapsed and was rushed to a local hospital. She was later transferred to UK, where she succumbed to her injuries.

"We are a tight knit family and when one of our schools is grieving, all of us are grieving," said Erin Stewart, Madison County Schools spokesperson.

Stewart says they've had grief counselors at Daniel Boone Elementary since the accident first happened.

"We want to make sure that anybody that needs someone to talk to, had someone available," she said.

A memorial fund to help the family with medical and funeral expenses has been created at Crossroads Christian Church in Lexington. Donations can be made payable to Crossroads Christian Church with "Caya Davis Memorial Fund" in the subject line.
