An investigation is underway into a crash in Madison County that left one person dead.
The crash happened Wednesday morning on Highway 52, near the Estill County line.
Police say a Ford Taurus and a VW Beetle collided head-on.
We're told the driver of the Taurus may have fallen asleep at the wheel. He died later died from his injuries.
The coroner has identified that driver as 63-year-old Roy T. Burgess, of Irvine.
His passenger, 26-year-old Jillian M. Willoughby, of Millersburg, was taken to the hospital.
Police say Willoughby had multiple injuries and underwent surgery.
The man in the Beetle, 53-year-old Steve A. Skaggs, of Jeffersonville, was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A state trooper who responded to the crash was taken to the hospital after an ambulance hit him as he was taking pictures of the scene.
Emergency crews tell us Trooper Chris Chenault's injuries are minor. We're told he had a leg injury.
The road was closed for a few hours, but has since reopened.
