Suspect in woman's shooting now behind bars

A suspect, wanted in connection to a shooting that left a woman injured, has been arrested.

25-year old Eldon Washington, of Danville, surrendered to Richmond Police on Sunday. He's charged with Assault, Wanton Endangerment, Burglary and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon.

Police have been trying to locate him since June 24th. A 22-year old woman living in an apartment on Sizemore Drive was shot that day. The victim and another woman inside called police after someone tried to break in the apartment. When the break-in attempt didn't work, the women say that someone fired shots in the apartment. The victim was hit in the abdomen. She was transported to the UK Medical Center and underwent surgery for what was believed to be a non-life threatening injury.

The women told police they recognized two men outside their apartment. They identified them as Washington and 26-year old George McPherson. McPherson and Washington were reported to have had prior relationships with the two women involved. Both left the scene after the shooting.

On June 28th, a warrant was obtained for Washington's arrest. He turned himself in at the Richmond Police Department at 7:22 Sunday night. Washington was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

Police say that McPherson is no longer being sought in connection with this investigation.
