Grief counselors are at Clark Moores Middle School in Richmond Monday after one of the school's students died in what's being called an accidental shooting. 27 NEWSFIRST has been told 14-year-old Bobby Whitlock, grandson of EKU president Doug Whitlock, died at UK Hospital Sunday. We're told the accident happened at the teen's home.
Officials at Clark Moores Middle School were notified of the boy's death Sunday night. Students and staff are receiving counseling Monday. "Any death of a student is tragic, because it's a life cut short", said school spokesperson Erin Stewart. "We try to deal with that the best we can, and everyone touched by the situation has adequate service."
This is the second loss the school has suffered in a week. Just last week grief counselors were on hand when a teacher died over the school's fall break.
Richmond Police are investigating the shooting.
The visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at First Christian Church in Richmond. The funeral will be held there at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Instead of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Robert Douglas Whitlock Jr. Fund for Autism at Eastern Kentucky University, Coates Building CPO 19A, Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY 40475.
