Thefts spark safety bulletin on EKU campus

A rash of thefts on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University have forced university officials to issue a public safety bulletin.

Since Sunday, EKU Police say they've received eight reports of items stolen from vehicles in several parking lots on campus.

Police say in each case, the items were left visible in the vehicles.

This comes as Richmond Police investigate items stolen from vehicles in several areas of the city.

If you have any information about the thefts on the EKU campus, you're asked to call the EKU Police Department at 859-622-1111.

EKU Police also passed along the following safety precautions:

Lock the doors to your vehicle and ensure that the windows are closed.

Remove all valuables from your vehicle.

If you cannot remove the property from your vehicle, secure it in lockable compartments or trunk, or hide it from view.

Do not leave personal belongings unattended in an unsecured area for any period of time.

Immediately report suspicious persons loitering around University parking lots and facilities.

If you become the victim of a crime, do not try to physically detain or apprehend the criminal. Report the incident immediately to the EKU Police Department at 911 or (859) 622-1111.
