Construction is underway on U.S. 25 in Richmond. The plan is to change the road from two lanes to five. A similar idea was proposed for Berea but that plan worried local business owners.
The original plan was for two different stretches of U.S. 25 to be widened to five lanes in Madison County.
In Richmond most of the businesses near the construction are further back from the road, but in Berea that construction would alter the property of several businesses.
"I'd lose seventy percent of my parking. Other people near me would be hit even harder." said Robbie Little. He's one of the owners and pharmacists at Berea Drug which is on U.S. 25.
Berea Mayor Steven Connelly says after hearing from the public, the state is considering a redesign. The biggest change would be widening the road to only three lanes instead of five. The mayor says it'll take engineers about six months to evaluate a new plan, then a public hearing will be held.
