The Center’s Executive Committee recognizes outgoing chairman Dr. Joseph L. Fink III

The Center for Rural Development has recognized outgoing chairman Dr. Joseph L. Fink III of Lexington for his leadership role on the Executive Committee of the organization’s Board of Directors during the last two years.

Lonnie Lawson, president and CEO of The Center, presented Fink with a crystal bowl on behalf of the Executive Committee in appreciation for Fink’s dedicated service and faithful leadership as chairman from July 1, 2008, until June 30, 2010. Fink served in a dual role as chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

“During Dr. Fink’s tenure, The Center has been able to build upon our four focus areas and even expand our leadership component of summer youth programs, allowing more young people than ever before within our 42-county primary service area to experience Rogers Scholars, Rogers Explorers, and Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute (ELI),” Lawson said. “We’re continuing to grow the region’s economy and change people’s lives, and we owe a great deal of that success to Dr. Fink’s insightful leadership.”

Fink, a professor in University of Kentucky’s Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, has been a member of The Center’s Board since 2002 and previously served as vice chairman before he stepped up into the role of chairman in July of 2008, succeeding former Executive Committee chairman Jerry Rickett of Corbin.

The Center, located at 2292 South U.S. 27 (at Traffic Light 15) in Somerset, is a non-profit organization created through the vision of U.S. Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) as a state and national model for economic, technological, and social solutions.

Concentrating on four focus service areas—leadership, public safety, technology, and arts and culture—The Center serves more than 900,000 residents in Southern and Eastern Kentucky by offering a diverse selection of programs and services in economic development, youth leadership, videoconferencing, and cultural arts.
