New road could eventually lead to new interstate

It's just a bypass right now but a new road that opened this week in Pulaski County could one day become part of a major east-west interstate.

The first section of what may eventually become Interstate 66 is open to traffic in Pulaski County.

The new four lane highway north of Somerset carries traffic between the Cumberland Parkway and U.S. Highway 27.

Officials say construction to finish the Northern Bypass could being soon but when it will become I-66 is still up in the air.
