SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT)- Officials have identified a woman that was hit and killed by and train, but now they're trying to figure out why she was on the tracks.
Officials say 21-year-old Dayona Pitman of Somerset was hit and killed by a train Thursday.
It happened just before 6 p.m. Thursday at the crossing on Mill Street and West Columbia Avenue in Somerset. Investigators say Pitman was walking on the tracks when a northbound train came up on her.
Police say the conductor sounded the alert but Pitman didn't move.
Instead, she started jogging then stopped and laid face down on the same track as the oncoming train.
Right before the train hit her, police say it's reported that the woman started to rise up.
Officials are still investigating into the manner of death. The coroner tells WKYT investigators will be reviewing video from on board the train.
