SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - People who knew him say he was a tough and determined defense attorney but also a good friend. The community gathered to remember a Pulaski County man shot to death outside his law office.
The visitation was held Monday night for Mark Stanziano in Somerset. He was killed Friday, and police quickly arrested the suspect.
Hundreds of people walked into Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset to pay their respects which paints a picture of a well-known, respected, and loved Stanziano.
"We can all say this or that, but his actions showed who he was," said April Mounce, a friend of Stanziano. "I mean you see the turn out here. He's touched many lives."
"It just shows how many people cared about him and how many lives he touched," said Sunshine Dishman, another friend.
Stanziano was only 57 years old when he was gunned down outside his office Friday morning. It's a tragedy many can't wrap their minds around.
"I was actually the last client he saw that day before he got killed. It really bothers me," said Irene Dishman, another friend.
"It's devastating because you can't believe it," said Jordan Crozier, another friend. "Like it doesn't even seem real right now. He was a great person."
Stanziano was a husband, father, grandfather, and popular attorney known for high profile criminal defense cases, but he's now gone. And many say it's a loss for the entire region.
"I never dreamed in a million years that somebody he was trying to help would do something like that," said Sunshine Dishman.
Being one of the most prominent defense attorneys in southern Kentucky, many people knew Stanziano one way or another.
"Mark was more than an attorney to us. Mark was a personal friend," said Mounce. "And he was the best of the best. There will never be anyone who can fill those shoes or even come close to it."
"He was a lot more than an attorney," said Irene Dishman. "He was a friend as well."
Clinton Inabnitt, 40, has been charged with Stanziano's murder. He plead not guilty in court on Monday. Stanziano's funeral is Tuesday at 3 p.m. also at Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset.
