Man charged for torturing, killing kitten

David Baker was released from jail on bond shortly after he was arrested but according to a relatively new law, he could face up to 5 years in prison if convicted of killing a kitten.

Several years ago that act would have been a misdemeanor, but because of Romeo’s Law, based on another Pulaski County case, Baker is now charged with a Felony.

“He did admit to the torturing , killing of the animal,” said Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood.

According to court records, Baker “twisted the animal to the point of breaking its spine and/or neck.” His 14 year old daughter’s story of what happened…eventually made its way to social services..and they went to police..who arrested Baker….after finding the cat’s remains.

“It’s my understanding he had disposed of the animal outside, but it had not been properly disposed of,” said Sheriff Wood.

Baker reportedly told police the cat killing didn’t happen in front of his daughter.

“However, those stories are contradictory to what we’ve been told in initial reports,” said Wood.

Baker is due back in Court on April 22nd.
