SOMERSET, Ky. (June 16, 2010) – The Silicon Hollow Association, a new non-profit group focused on marketing east and south central Kentucky as an IT and computing science outsource destination, will officially launch at an event and luncheon scheduled for Monday, June 21, 2010, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset.
The Silicon Hollow Association, founded by East Kentucky Web Group, Dogwood Technologies, the Center for Rural Development and the Eastern Region ICC/IC Innovation and Commercialization Centers at Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University and Ashland Community and Technical College, is a network of IT and computing science firms based in eastern and south central Kentucky. The association’s two main goals are marketing the skills and expertise of member businesses, and utilizing the association’s diverse skills and expertise to businesses needing help in IT, computing science and marketing.
“Too often we see companies outsourcing IT and software development work to India and other countries overseas,” said Gary Marshall with the Innovation and Commercialization Center at EKU. “With the formation of the Silicon Hollow Association, it is our goal to offer business competitive pricing on IT services while helping entrepreneurs grow their business and provide a boost to the economy of eastern Kentucky.”
The keynote speaker for the luncheon will be Henry Torres, Director of Interactive Teaching and Technology Center at Arkansas State University. Torres was instrumental in the founding of Rural Sourcing Inc., a software outsourcing company on which the Silicon Hollow Association is modeled. During its first two years in business, Rural Sourcing, Inc. did more than $1.2 million in sales. Torres will speak to attendees via video link.
The launch event will also feature two discussion panels: one comprised of business leaders from eastern and south central Kentucky discussing current and future use of computer technology and information for their firms, and the other a panel of IT professionals in Silicon Hollow talking about the founding of the association and how it will serve the IT needs of the business community across the commonwealth.
