Dispute over fishing on Cumberland River continues

WASHINGTON D.C (WYMT) - The U.S. Senate recently passed a bill which Senator Mitch McConnell tacked on an amendment effecting the Wolf Creek and Barkley Dams.

The amendment plans to stop the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from restricting fishing and water activities near the two dams. The amendment passed the Senate earlier this week. The Corps recently began placing buoys around the individual dams to block fishing access. McConnell's amendment would allow the corps to have restricted areas, but only during times when water conditions are hazardous instead of 24 hours a day.
