FRANKFORT, Ky. (WYMT)-
Six local law enforcement agencies received more than $29,000 in grants to help purchase new equipment.
The local departments receiving the funds are the Barbourville, Burnside, Coal Run, Cumberland, Harlan and Science Hill police departments. Governor Steve Beshear announced the grants Monday as part of the state law enforcement protection program. Under the program the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security with the Kentucky State Police generate income from the sale of confiscated weapons. The grant money will be used to buy body armor, weapons, and tasers for police.
