A coroner and funeral home director is in trouble with the law.
The indictment still hasn't been filed yet, but we are learning more about the allegations against long time Pulaski County coroner Richard New.
New is accused of stealing from Lake Cumberland Funeral Home while he was the director there.
That funeral's home's attorney tells us that the board of directors fired New in May of last year after they learned of some financial matters that caused them a great deal of concern.
The board met and terminated New the same day.
The funeral home forwarded their findings to a special unit of the Kentucky State Police and a grand jury indicted New on more than 20 counts of theft on Tuesday.
State police say the crimes occurred over a 9 year time span and totaled about $60,000 dollars.
New's attorney John Gillum told us over the phone that New plans to continue his role as coroner. In a statement..Gillum says that the timing of the allegations is curious and coincidental considering that Richard has just opened a new competing funeral home.
Officials say the allegations only detail New's relationship with the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home and not his role as coroner.
