Police searching for man after scare at a Pulaski County hospital

SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - It’s described as an $80,000 vehicle, and police believe they know who was behind the wheel of it at South Kentucky RECC in the middle of the night.

“They observed a man driving a large RECC bucket truck,” said Lt. Shannon Smith with Somerset Police.

Caught in the act, the man ran off but not before he left his shirt and other belongings behind. A few hours later, a shirtless man turns up at the local hospital parking lot carrying a shotgun.

“The Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital went into voluntary lockdown as a precaution,” said Smith.

Police believe the man who tried taking the truck, and was seen at the hospital is Robert Beach.

“He is known by our local law enforcement. We’ve had a few run ins with him,” said Smith.

And that’s quite literal. In 2001 he was charged with wanton endangerment on a police officer and Beach’s criminal history with drugs, theft, and even escape date back more than 20 years. And the fact that he may have had a gun near a hospital has police labeling him armed and dangerous.

“We don’t know where the gun came from. Nobody has reported a gun missing. We don’t know if it belonged to him. That’s one of the things we want to ask him when we find him,” said Smith.

Possession of the gun could lead to an addition charge because police say he is a convicted felon.

Back in April 2013, Robert Beach's Brother, John Beach, disappeared. Police say the car the two men were in ran out of gas in Pulaski County. They say Robert Beach went to use the phone at a nearby house, but John disappeared and hasn't been seen since. The Pulaski County Sheriff tells us Robert Beach is a person of interest in the case because he was the last person to see his brother.
