Police: Drunk man let child drive

About 2:30 Sunday morning….most drivers along US 27 were probably still out and about from their Saturday night activities.. Yet one driver noticed a potential danger in front of her.

“I’m going down 27 and there is a truck in front of me all over the road,” the caller is heard in the 911 tapes obtained by 27 Newsfirst.

She called 911 because she believed the driver of the truck she was following wasn’t driving safe.

“Hee’s doing what?” the Pulaski 911 dispatcher is heard asking.

“He’s all over the road,” the caller continues. “In the 3 lanes before we hit the two lane, he was swerving back and forth in all 3 lanes,” she is heard saying in the recording.

Police noticed the truck also but as they were pulling it over, they say the driver and passenger switched places. As it turns out, police say the 12 year old in the truck told them that 30 year old Jonathan E. Morris wanted the youngster to drive because Morris was too drunk.

Burnside Police could not say what the relationship was between the 12 year old and Morris.

But we did so some checking on Morris and we discovered that in Wayne County he was recently charged with alcohol intoxication…and that last year…he was cited for speeding and driving on a suspended license in Pulaski County.

Now he’s facing a DUI charge and wanton endangerment. He pleaded not guilty to the charges Monday in Pulaski District Court. Police say the 12 year old was put in the custody of his guardians.
