LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Family members of a young girl, critically injured in a car crash, are speaking out about her recovery.

12-year-old Jaden Jasper and her father, Jimmy, both suffered injuries when their SUV hit a wooden plank fence in Somerset.

It happened three weeks ago on Pumphouse Road.

"Three weeks ago today was the worst day of my life, and I know my sister and my family feel the same way," said Karen Miller, Jaden's aunt.

Jaden has undergone several surgeries since the crash, but she's been upgraded from critical to fair condition at UK Hospital.

Her family says despite dealing with head and brain injuries, Jaden is making improvements every day.

"Jaden has the most positive, loving attitude," said Miller. "I've watched her lay there and go through so much, and she's not even so much as yelled out loud, cried, or complained. I mean so many kids would complain, and I've not heard one complaint from her. She's just really been outstanding throughout all of this."

But since the crash, the family says "Prayers for Jaden," a Facebook page in her honor and Jaden's warriors have gotten them through it all.

"Without God and all the love and support and prayers I've received, I probably couldn't have made it," said Michelle Jasper, Jaden's mother.

Jaden's family tells us she is up and walking and has been able to read and write.

"I can't be weak when I have a 12-year-old niece who's being as strong as she's being," said Miller.

She has sight in her right eye and is starting to regain sight in her left eye. Her family says Jaden's ability to see the bright side, even with just one good eye after the accident, has encouraged everyone to stay strong.

"I'm just so thankful that she's made it this far, and she's gonna be okay and that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and that things are going as good as they are because it was really scary going into all this," Jaden's mother added.

Jaden is scheduled to be moved from UK Hospital to Cardinal Hill for rehabilitation starting Wednesday.

There will be a benefit on Saturday, April 13 at the Woodstock Community Center in Somerset to raise money for Jaden's medical bills. It is scheduled to start that day at 8 a.m.
