A Pulaski County woman received an unexpected gift on Christmas Eve while she was doing some last minute shopping for her daughter
Jessica Merrick has been struggling financially. Her daughter only had a few presents under the tree, so she went to Kmart on Christmas Eve to pick up a few more items for her daughter to unwrap.
"I barely have any money. My daughter was sick, she had strep, and I missed work for a week so my check was short," said Merrick.
Jessica told her mother she would find some way to pay for the extra gifts even if that meant paying her electric bill late, but a stranger at Kmart had a different idea in mind.
Jessica noticed a lady standing behind her at the service desk, and when she went to the checkout line, that same lady was standing behind her again. She went to grab one more item, and the lady was now standing in front of her.
"I was getting ready to pay, and she was like 'Oh can I pay?' And I was like 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry, did you not pay for your stuff?' And she said "No, can I pay for your stuff?" I stood there in shock and cried," said Merrick.
A Christmas miracle so Jessica's daughter Caylee could have a few more gifts under the tree.
Now that Jessica has experienced the kindness of strangers, she plans to pay it forward.
"Maybe if I see a smaller purchase, I'll pay for it or something because I am a true believer in pay it forward," said Merrick.
And to her Christmas angel, not even thank you can express her gratitude.
Jessica Merrick says she can not believe something like this happened to her.
She says she does not even know the lady's name who paid for her purchase.
