SOMERSET, Ky. (WYMT) - A former presidential candidate who is now a television host will be speaking in southern Kentucky next week.
Fox News commentator Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, will take the podium at Somerset Christian School on Tuesday, October 2nd.
"The focus of the event is to attract the attention of the students, our faculty and our community," said co-organizer Hilda Legg. "On what should the Christian leaders of the future look like and be like."
As a former pastor, Huckabee has broad support among evangelicals - a group that strongly backed him during the 2008 GOP presidential primary.
"I'm very interested in politics, but he's coming to talk about Christian leadership," said Jonathan Polston, a seventh grader at SCS. "I'm excited to hear about that."
Jordan Taylor, a senior at SCS, said, "(Huckabee) is a strong Christian leader. So I'm just very excited about him coming here and delivering his thoughts on Christian leadership and everything."
But students are not the only ones excited.
"We are very excited to have someone of his level coming to our school," teacher Melissa Phelps said. "Coming to Somerset, Kentucky, and visiting us and knowing that he's going to be in our building and around us and we'll get an opportunity to spend time with him. We feel very honored."
Huckabee will not be the first big name to speak at SCS. In 2010, the school hosted former first lady Laura Bush and last year Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer made a stop on campus.
The event will serve as a fundraiser for the school.
