Ladonna Hurd died one week after being injured while roller skating with her children. She was a volunteer firefighter in Pulaski County.

People who know her say she's done so much to help her community, and now they're wanting to return the favor. We have a sad update about that Pulaski County woman who was injured in an unusual accident. Firefighters tell us LaDonna Hurd died Wednesday afternoon at UK Hospital.
As we told you earlier this week, Hurd suffered serious injuries after falling while rolling skating with her children in Pulaski County. Now Heather McClendon hopes some special T-shirts will help raise money for Hurd's family.
"This is part of what they're taught, like to be a team and look out for each other, so it just seemed natural," said Heather McClendon, the organizer of the fundraiser T-shirts. "I couldn't imagine not doing something. I don't know her that well personally. I do know things from other people in the community, and I've heard nothing but great things about her."
Hurd was a home health care nurse and a volunteer firefighter at the Bronston and Burnside fire stations in Pulaski County. McClendon and Hurd crossed paths at a firefighter training program that's been going on for the past few months. That's where McClendon has been lending a helping hand, and here she is doing it again.
"I just saw her three days previous to this and well and climbing ladders and carrying people out of buildings and then all of a sudden three days later you hear this," said McClendon. "And she's had this terrible accident, and she's fighting for her life. It's a shock and so close to home."
Even if it's just in a small way, she says the training programs have focused a lot on teamwork, and that's what Hurd needs now more than ever.
"This is when the team should come together," said McClendon. "This is what they are taught to do when someone's down, and everybody rallies around them."
Team LaDonna T-shirts are one way of doing that, raising money for travel costs for Hurd's family.
"Within the first hour, I had probably 20 or 25 people contact me about these T-shirts," said McClendon.
If you're interested in one of those T-shirts, you can find details on the "Prayers For LaDonna!!!" Facebook page. You can also email Heather McClendon at email@example.com.
Ladonna's visitation and funeral will be held at Hickman-Struck Funeral Home in Somerset. The visitation is Monday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m. The funeral is on Tuesday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m.
