The new school year gets underway in Anderson County on Wednesday. However, eight-year-old Summer Evans, will not be there. Evans was supposed to start the third grade this week but she was one of three people killed in a single car wreck on Monday.

Evans attended Saffell Street Elementary in Lawrenceburg. The principal there, Robin Arnzen, says Evans was, "very bright, sweet, and affectionate." Arnzen says there will be grief counselors on campus Wednesday to assist students and staff in dealing with Evans' death.

Meantime, a fund has been set up at Citizen's Commerce Bank in Versailles to assist Evans' family with funeral and burial expenses. A pastor at Glen's Creek Baptist Church in Versailles where Evans often attended with her family said the family is obviously distraught. Justin Rader says his church is full of very loving people who will support the family during this very difficult time.

The other victims in the crash were Evans' aunt, 19-year-old Amanda Reynolds and 20-year-old Heather Sutherland. Reynolds' infant daughter survived the crash.

Evans' funeral will take place Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will follow at Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Arrangements for the Reynolds and Sutherland are pending.
