The deaths of two children in a Woodford County house fire Friday have shocked the community, especially students and staff at Southside Elementary School in Versailles.
That's where one of the children killed in the fire attended.
At least two extra counselors, specially trained to deal with grief, are at Southside Elementary Friday.
The Woodford County Superintendent tells us both social workers and counselors are assisting students and teachers, who just need someone to talk to, following the tragedy.
"When you lose a child, when you lose a student, it is just like losing a member of your family," Woodford County Superintendent Scott Hawkins said. "I think students are feeling that, and I think our staff is feeling that. What we are doing is providing as much support as possible."
Hawkins says the district does have the ability to call in additional counselors to help grieving students and teachers.
We're told 520 students attend Southside Elementary.
