WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is fighting for his life after investigators say he was hit by a car while walking along a Woodford County road.
Police spent hours on the scene trying to figure out how this accident happened.
It was around 7:15 Friday night when Versailles Police say a 29-year-old man was walking along Spring Station Road when he was hit by a car and critically injured.
“This is a very narrow country road with no lights. It’s raining off and on which makes visibility even worse than it normally would be,” said Lt. Daniel Clark with Versailles Police.
Officers say the man was walking on the road heading east toward Midway when he was hit by a car going the other direction.
The woman who was driving told police she simply didn't see him until it was too late.
“The person who was walking on the road was wearing dark clothing. It’s not a good thing to be walking in the roadway at this time of night,” Clark said.
The victim suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision and had to be airlifted from the scene to UK Hospital where police say he is being treated for serious head injuries.
The driver of the car wasn't hurt and at this time no charges have been filed.
“We haven’t ruled anything out and we will just have to see what turns up with our investigation if any charges will be placed.”
At this time, police are not releasing the name of the victim.
