VERSAILLES, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say a father is clinging to life after being stabbed by his own son.

The attack happened at a home on High Street in Versailles early this morning. "All I know is I woke up this morning and looked out the window and saw all these cop cars," explains next door neighbor Melvin Sutherland, "I've lived next to Dennis Phar for years, I was nervous something bad had happened to him."

Versailles Police say that 73-year-old Dennis Phar was stabbed in the throat with a knife by his 25-year-old son, Ross. "We're familiar with this residence," explains Lt. Daniel Clark with the Versailles Police Department. "Back in June we responded to this address for a domestic dispute. The father claims that his son punched him in the stomach then held an AK-47 to him, threatening to shoot him. Shortly after a DOV was place against his son, he returned to the residence threatening his father again."

Police say they noticed Ross driving by the residence early this morning after the incident. "One of our officers noticed his car and proceeded to go after him but Ross fled. That began a chase down Versailles road where Ross crashed into a motorcycle, sending them both over the embankment."

We're told the motorcyclist suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at UK hospital.

Ross Phar was arrested and charged with violating a domestic violence order, assault and fleeing and evading police. He's being held at the Woodford County Detention Center.

Dennis far is in UK hospital with life threatening injuries.
