CORBIN, ky. (WYMT) - The Dixie café is open once again, but this time it took a little divine intervention to get it up and running.

Owners Carolyn and Ed Garr say that they were inspired by God to re-open the restaurant.

“[Ed] hadn't told anyone but me and a little lady at our church named Granny Ruth came up to him one Sunday and said Ed I drove by the old Dixie and God told me you're supposed to open that,” said Owner Carolyn Garr.

With help from the community and the Lord, they've brought this Corbin staple back to life.

“It’s just so amazing, we're all so excited, we're really happy for the Garrs they're really great people, and it's a gathering place for the community that's come back,” said customer Kim Corley.

The restaurant’s tradition is displayed on the walls and even in the food.

The Dixie is known for its chili, and the Garr's came up with an innovative way to try and come close to its original recipe.

“We had a lady who would make samples and we'd choose them. We got it down to two, and I work at the middle school so we took two of them to the middle school and let the middle school teachers vote, and came up with our chili,” said Garr.

Customers say it's just as good as it was years ago.

“The chili dogs were amazing then and the new ones are just as amazing,” said Corley

It is an answer to the Garr's prayers in the form of a hot dog.

The cafe currently serves breakfast and lunch during the week.
