Bench stolen from Corbin grave

More Video...

A woman in Corbin is asking for your help in finding a bench that was stolen from her son's grave at Corinth Cemetery.

Jodie Nelson says not a day goes by that she does not think about her son Alonzo who was only 18 when he was killed by a pickup truck in front of their home in 2006.

"He was engaged to be married. He had his life all planned out. He was a wonderful christian. He was a really, really good boy," said Nelson.

Nelson changes her son's flowers twice a year. On Saturday, while buying new flowers for the summer, she got a disturbing call from Alonzo's dad.

"Saying his bench was gone. I thought it was a joke," Nelson said.

But this was a real theft. Nelson says she wanted the bench because her son loved to hunt squirrels.

Sergeant Rusty Hedrick of the Corbin Police Department says that it is often very hard to find the person responsible for a cemetery theft.

"It's really hard unless we see a vehicle leaving the area or notice one inside the cemetery with items in the cemetery," Sgt. Hedrick said.

Nelson posted on Facebook talking about the theft and how she will give a $100 reward to anyone who can return the bench unharmed.

"It's just really wonderful to see there are wonderful, good people still out there after everything that's going on," said Nelson.

Many people showed their support for Jodie Nelson through Facebook. She says she just wants her son's bench back.

Nelson says she has a message for the person or person's responsible.

I don't care who you are or why you did it, but it's just not yours. It belongs to my son. Just bring it back safe," said Nelson.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the theft. They were unavailable for comment today.
