CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - A bench was stolen from a cemetery in Corbin in late April. It was found just two days later, at a cemetery in Barbourville. Saturday, the family was ready to cement the bench back into place at Corinth Cemetery.
Alonzo Nelson died in 2006 and his mom, Jodie Nelson, says when the bench was stolen it felt like re-living the pain all over again. She says her son can rest peacefully now that the bench is back where it belongs.
"I think he can rest a whole lot better because now that it's been concreted in, it's not going to go anywhere for a very long time. I know he feels a lot better," said Nelson.
While the bench was missing, Jodie Nelson created a Facebook page to raise awareness about the theft. That page got more than two thousand shares. She says she will continue to work to put a stop to cemetery thefts.
