Center to boost literacy opens in eastern Ky.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (AP) - A new center that will offer free books and tutoring to children has opened in eastern Kentucky.

The Books to Kids Reading and Tutoring Center in Williamsburg is a joint project of the Williamsburg Action Team and Tennessee-based Plenty International Inc. Williamsburg Action Team spokeswoman Marian Colette told the Times-Tribune (http://bit.ly/PlJNfB) the center will be stocked with hundreds of books for babies and children up to fifth grade. She says tutoring will be provided for students through high school.

Plenty International volunteer Jim Selin said books for the center are acquired either through donations or by purchasing them at thrift stores.

Although its doors have been open for about a month, Colett says there will be an official grand opening for the center on Friday.
