CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - Gas was a little cheaper for some folks in Corbin on Friday. Part of this weekend's "LoveLOUD" event had church members helping folks get cheaper prices at the pump.
For some, five dollars of gas money is a big help.
"It helps so much. I mean five dollars to me is like $500 to some people. That's the truth. Five dollars goes a long way when you don't have a lot," said Marilyn Wilder, who lives in Corbin.
And that is exactly what people coming to the Circle K in Corbin received when they stopped for gas on Friday. The "Gas Buy Down" is part of the second annual "LoveLOUD" event, where members of more than 30 churches in the Corbin area came together to show their love to people throughout the community.
"This is what God commanded us to do is to love on one another. What better way to love on our community than to show that we care? It's one thing to say it, it's another thing to do it," said Ron Green, an Associate Pastor at Central Baptist Church in Corbin and an organizer of "LoveLOUD."
One thousand dollars worth of gas were given out to folks at the event.
"I hope that people understand that we really do love them, and that we're not just saying it in our churches, but we're living it out in our community," Associate Pastor Green said.
And hopefully spreading that message throughout the area.
"It sends me on my way knowing that maybe I can do something for somebody else today without expecting anything in return," said Tensley Wilson, who lives in London.
Organizers say the main event for "LoveLOUD" will be on Saturday, at "Serve Saturday" at Corbin High School, which starts at 10 a.m.
At "Serve Saturday," 800 meals will be given out to families. Also, free services like medical care, dental care, child care, hair cuts and legal advice will be offered. Church officials had some basic questions when organizing "Serve Saturday."
"What are some real needs of our community? What are some basic things we can do to really love on our community?" said Associate Pastor Green.
Helping the community one selfless act at a time.
The celebration service for "LoveLOUD" will be Sunday at Corbin High School at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
