Corbin Police investigating restaurant burglaries

CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - Police are investigating some restaurant break-ins in Corbin.

Police say on December 6th, thieves broke-in to the Subway in Forest Hills and the McDonald's on Master Street. Police believe the burglaries are connected.

On the back door of Subway, you can see marks where police say someone pried it open. Once inside, police say the thief got away with $1,200.

"They actually drug the safe out from underneath the counter and drug it out the rear door," said Rusty Hedrick with the Corbin Police Department.

The same night, police say someone also used a hammer to break the windows at McDonald's on Master Street and tried to get its safe, but got away with nothing.

Both restaurants had surveillance video. Both show the thief as a man with his face covered and wearing light colored gloves. Police are still trying to identify him. They also believe other suspects are involved in the two burglaries.

"It appears they are connected. There's some similarities in both of the suspects in the photos and the nature of coming and going to the safe," Hedrick said.

Now some other businesses in Corbin are taking extra safety precautions while police look for suspects.

Across the street from Subway, the Forest Hills Salon is closing an hour earlier so no employee has to be alone at night.

"Really concerned. It's really kind of scary, but we're doing what we can to stay safe," said Tonya Miracle.

"Right now we're still following some leads. We still do have some pretty good leads," said Hedrick.

Police ask anyone with information, to report it to the Corbin Police Department. All tips can remain anonymous.
