One southern Kentucky man is behind bars for putting a family in danger, when a foot chase ended in their back yard Tuesday night.

Trees surround Beth and Ronnie Mays' back porch, and they were surprised by what came through them Tuesday night.

“Then here Dean comes with a 25 automatic, and he stood right there at that fence post and was waving it up there at the house,” said Ronnie Mays.

Beth says her friend Neddie Rogers was running from 72 year old Justice D. king, who they call Dean.

“My friend came running up on the porch after we heard shots fired across the field, and said that they was trying to kill him or something pretty much. We thought he was joking,” said Beth Mays.

Police say King had just chased Rogers across the field behind the Mays' home. So when Rogers took shelter inside, King started pointing the gun at them.

“I just didn't want him to accidentally shoot at the house with my daughter in there, because you know, that's a bullet you can't dodge that,” said Beth.

The Mays say they were scared not only because of the gun in king's hand, but also because he was so drunk they couldn't understand what he was saying.

“He was squalling that we was harboring a fugitive I believe, and I didn't know Ned had done anything like that. Ned said he hadn't ever done anything like that,” said Ronnie.

King was arrested once police got to the home, but the Mays say they just wanted him to leave.

“We were just trying to get him to leave on the count of our daughter being here. I mean that's all we wanted to do,” said Ronnie.

King is in the Whitley County Detention Center, and was charged with wanton endangerment and resisting arrest.
