From 1994 to 2001 he served as mayor of New York City.
It was at the very end of his second term when America was attacked and Rudy Giuliani was praised for his leadership in the aftermath of 9-11.
Giuliani was in southern Kentucky Tuesday night.
It was a stormy evening in Williamsburg, but that did not stop thousands of people from coming to hear former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani speak at the University of the Cumberlands.
Guiliani's message was called "Principled Leadership in a Time of Crisis."
He helped recognize leaders in the community and told the crowd that included college students how he got through September 11th, 2001.
Before his speech, he talked exclusively with Mountain News about the changes since 9-11.
“I think it made us more aware of the threats against us. I think we do a much better job now of preventing these attacks. I can think of many that have been prevented in the 10 plus years now,” Giuliani said.
We also talked with Giuliani about several other issues including one that many folks are talking about right now... high gas prices.
“President Obama has been Doctor No on energy. He said no to coal, to expanded oil, he's putting a halt to natural gas, they're looking into slowing it down. He's said no to nuclear power, what's left? Wind, solar? That's a hope for 20 to 30 years from now. It's not a reality now,” Giuliani said.
Guiliani says he has no future political aspirations now except trying to help get a republican elected president.
