The City of Corbin is planning on making a safe bike trail throughout the town.
Cycle Corbin is the initiative leading the effort to get a bike trail in Corbin. The trail would run parallel to all major roads. Officials say one of the purposes of the trail is to promote healthy living for the people of Corbin.
"Every city needs to be concerned about their citizens and their well being. It's part of the future of American cities. A more active, outdoor lifestyle," said Andrew Salmons, the Corbin Downtown Manager.
Officials say part of the plan is to educate the public about safe bike travel through events, schools, and the recreation department
Salmons said that the other reason the bike path is so important is because it will bring more tourists to Corbin.
"We're hoping that with having extensive cycling track in and around the city that we can really attract people from outside of our area to come into Corbin, to ride on our trails and maybe visit our businesses," Salmons said.
Officials say the planning process should be completed by the middle of the summer. They say the trail will be 35 to 40 miles long.
Officials say people are encouraged to pick up a map at Corbin City Hall or You and Me Coffee and Tea on Main Street, and draw their favorite bike routes. The Cycle Corbin Committee will then consider these routes when they create the trail.
