CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - Heavy rains in Whitley County were too much for the roof of one business.
Off of Corbin's busy Cumberland Falls Highway sits Liquor King, known to some as the alcohol "megastore" in southeastern Kentucky.
Since the store's grand opening last year, employees say business has been booming and there have been few problems.
But on Sunday morning, one big problem came pouring in at the hands of Mother Nature.
"From the heavy rains that we have had last night and this week that the roof just collapsed over the entrance," said the store manager.
The pressure of the falling water crushed some shopping carts and took out some windows. Construction crews worked throughout the day Sunday to clean up the mess, board up the front of the store and remove any remaining water.
The manager says thankfully none of the store's products were damaged.
Believe it or not, the store opened on time Sunday at 1:00 but the manager said the only way people were able to buy alcohol at that time was by going through the drive thru, since the front entrance is obviously where the majority of the damage happened.
"We are cleaning out the office right now, we cleaned up all the glass this morning and got everything safe," the manager said.
He says he and his crews will continue working sun up to sun down to ensure that Corbin's staple liquor store will be back to normal in no time.
Smith also told us that at this time, they are still trying to determine how much it will cost to repair the collapsed roof.
