WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Rescuers have reached three hikers stranded by high water the near Laurel Lake, but have not been able to move them to safety yet.
Whitley County Emergency Management Director, Danny Moses, tells us three people became trapped by high water while hiking off of Bee Creek Road near the spillway at the lake.
Moses tells us the three people began hiking around noon Thursday and crossed a stream that later became impassable because of heavy rain.
A family member and friend of one of the hikers began looking for the trio when the friend injured himself. Emergency crews were able to get to reach him Friday morning.
Moses tells us emergency crews have been in contact most of the day with the stranded hikers, but still have not been able to get them out of the woods.
Family of the hikers are waiting to be reunited with their loved ones at a command post setup near Laurel River Dam.
