Whitley County man stabbed four times

Police say 24-year-old Adam Hart and 44-year-old Jerry Lawson got into an argument Saturday night in front of Hart's aunt's house on High Top Road in Corbin. The fight ended with Hart being seriously injured.

"He had four knife wounds to the back. This was done with a small pocket knife," said Colan Harrell, Whitley County Sheriff.

Police and family do not know what the fight was about.

Hart's aunt said she had no idea that Hart had been stabbed, because he was able to get up and walk away to his brother's house down the street from her house.

Family members say when Hart got in his brother's house, he collapsed on the floor. Then, his brother called 9-1-1 and drove Hart to Baptist Health in Corbin where he was later transported to UK Hospital. Sheriff Harrell says Jerry Lawson was caught Sunday morning because of one deputy's outstanding police work.

"Deputy Shawn Jackson went above and beyond," Sheriff Harrell said.

Sheriff Harrell says Deputy Jackson saw a false address Lawson had used on a previous citation, and found Lawson there.

Lawson is currently charged with second degree assault and is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Hart has been released from UK hospital. His family says he was almost stabbed in the spine.
