WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - A knock at the door led to a frightening experience for two people at a Williamsburg apartment.
Police say they became the victims of a violent home break-in. It did not take long for police to track down the three suspects in the case.
Brothers Jordan and Jacob Ball are the victims. They have several injuries from the attack early Wednesday morning inside their own apartment.
"I opened the door and they just ambushed in," said Jacob Ball.
The brothers say three of their neighbors at the Mount Morgan Apartments beat them.
"Had a guy put a knife to my throat and tell me not to move and they continued beating me and my brother," Jordan Ball said.
The brothers say two men held them at knifepoint while the other man ransacked their apartment and stole cash and other valuable items.
"Said they would kill us if we went to the cops or didn't give them more money," said Jordan Ball.
The brothers escaped and did go to police.
Williamsburg Police say they found the three suspects at their own apartment and took them into custody. John Meadows, 26, went to jail. Police say the other two, Melvin Hill, 26, and Lucas Canada, 25, were too intoxicated for jail and went to the hospital. They arrested them on Thursday.
Police say during the arrests on Thursday, Hill refused to leave the apartment so the apartment manager let police in. Officers found Canada hiding in the nearby woods.
The two brothers do not know why the robbery happened to them. Police are still investigating a motive.
"We've learned a little bit today. We have reason to believe the altercation occurred because of drugs," said Chief Wayne Bird.
Jordan and Jacob Ball say now they are ready for the court process.
"I'd like justice to be done," Jacob Ball said.
The three suspects are charged with robbery, assault, and receiving stolen property.
The Balls were treated at the hospital for their injuries and released.
