A couple arrested after the death of their 10-month-old granddaughter has pleaded guilty to second degree manslaughter.
David Black and Cheryl Kirkwood Black entered the guilty pleas Wednesday morning in Clark County.
"I unlawfully contained a controlled medication that resulted in the death of the most precious person in my life," said David Black.
"We had pain medication in the home and I turned my back on my beautiful granddaughter for five minutes. And she apparently found one of those pills and it caused her death," added Cheryl Black.
Police say Addysen Brooks Mayes was in their car when she died of a methadone overdose in 2010.
Investigators say the couple admitted to abusing methadone and hiding their liquid methadone in bottles of children's medication.
A 10 year prison sentence has been recommended for both David Black and Cheryl Kirkwood Black. They will be formally sentenced December 1.
The child's mother, Brooks Ecton, is facing a wanton endangerment charge.
