Appearing before Judge William Clouse for the first time, Chris Chandler and Amanda Tolson answered to some serious charges.

The two are charged with murder for the death of their newborn son, Lucas Chase Chandler, in March of 2009. Just last week Chris Chandler told NewsFirst he clearly remembered the day in question.

"When I woke up that morning his lips were blue and he wasn't breathing", Chandler told NewsFirst.

Police say the baby died from blunt force trauma to the head. Chris Chandler says he wasn't responsible. He posted a $50,000 cash bond and today he and Amanda Tolson entered a 'not guilty' plea.

The judge denied Chandler's request for a public defender to represent him.

"If you can come up with $50,000, I'm sure the state of Kentucky shouldn't have to finance your legal issues", Judge William Clouse said.

A public defender asked for Amanda Tolson's bond to be modified. The Commonwealth disagreed. The judge said he would take it into account.

As for Amanda Tolson and Chris Chandler, they will appear back before a judge on March 11th.
