Public hearing on proposed coal-fired power plant

A proposed, coal-fired power plant in Clark County, brought out dozens of people to a public hearing tonight.

East Kentucky Power Cooperative wants to build an 800-million dollar plant that will burn coal. The plant would be in southern Clark County, near the Trapp community. East Kentucky Power already operates its Smith generating station, near Trapp. The cooperative makes power for 16 member co-ops throughout central and eastern Kentucky. The proposed plant would burn coal to heat water into steam and turn the turbines that make electricity.

The new plant would provide power to 150,000 and homes.
