As work gets underway to widen I-64 to six lanes in Clark County, crews are getting ready to demolish a bridge that crosses the interstate.
Beginning Sunday night, crews will begin demolishing the bridge that carries U.S. 60 over the interstate, east of Winchester. Locally, the road is known as Mount Sterling Road.
Transportation officials say a signed detour will re-route U.S. 60 traffic onto the interstate until a new bridge is completed, which will be in September.
Transportation officials say the project will require periodic, temporary closures of entrance and exit ramps to and from the Paris Road interchange on I-64.
Work is now underway to widen I-64 to six lanes in the entire stretch between Lexington and the Mountain Parkway.
