Donations pour in from Clark County

Early Saturday morning, Clark County Coroner Robert Gayheart was called in for the difficult task of trying to recover the dead in West Liberty. After he left, he said he knew he had to do something and for the past couple of days he's been organizing a donation drive here at the Clark County Walmart

"I'm just so thankful to have a roof over my head," says Gayheart. He says that trip to West Liberty deeply affected him.

"I was just really taken aback," he says.

When he got back, he put out a memo suggesting a donation drive and today, cart after cart is being unloaded into a truck bound for West Liberty.

"It's tremendous. This community as well as all the communities across Central Kentucky help out one with another during times of tragedy such as this," says Billy Keller, who was dropping off donations.

People have brought in water, food, diapers, and other items badly needed.

"To realize that people in Winchester, my hometown here, have such a heart to help others. It's just been a wave of support. It's just a blessing to be able to see this happen," says Gayheart.

Gayheart says they'll still be accepting items through the week. He says what they need most are flashlights and batteries.
