Falling tree kills man during storm

Updated: Fri 10:54 PM, Jun 29, 2012

It was the usual evening drive home for 31-year-old Michael Wayne Martin.

Earlier Friday evening, winds picked up in the Clark county area, causing scattered debris.

Martin and his cousin were driving on Donaldson Road when they came up on some broken branches.

Instead of driving over them, Martin did what any good Samaritan would do. He got out of the car to move them.

But then, the unthinkable happened.

"I mean this it's like I'm in a shock right now like it ain't even happening right now," said Martin's twin sister, Michelle Martin.

Michelle Martin got the call about the accident that a tree had snapped, falling on top of Martin.

Their cousin was in the car the whole time, watching the horror unfold.

"I was working the only thing I could do was throw the phone down and leave," said Michelle Martin.

Michelle tells us she raced to the scene, hoping for a miracle.

But when she got there, she got the the news everyone had dreaded. Her brother been killed.

"He'll be truly missed. He was a good ... I mean there was four of us and we all stuck together," said Michelle Martin.

"He had one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. He had no enemies. Everyone liked him. He was a great person. He would give or do anything for anybody," said Bradley Johnson, a family friend.

"It could have been anyone. Anybody who come down this road," said Johnson.

The family tells us that Martin was from Mt Sterling.
