A central Kentucky couple faces murder charges for the death of a baby.
An indictment accuses the Winchester couple of causing the 11-month-old's death by a methadone overdose.
The baby's mother was also arrested.
The baby, Addysen Brooks Mayes, died in October.
Police say autopsy results show the infant died of acute toxic effects of methadone.
Authorities say the infant's mother, 20-year-old Brooks Ecton, left Addyson in the care of her mother, Cheryl Kirkwood-Black, and Black's husband David Black.
Police say when Ecton came home that night, she noticed Addysen was acting strange.
The next morning, the baby died.
Cheryl Kirkwood-Black and David Black are both charged with murder.
According to court records, they've admitted to being methadone users and obtaining the drugs illegally.
Ecton is charged with wanton endangerment for allegedly not seeking medical attention for Addysen.
Police say Ecton also knew Kirkwood-Black and Black were active drug users.
All three arrested pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon.
James Mayes, the baby's father, defended Ecton after her court appearance.
"She's not a bad momma," Mayes said. "She's the best momma I've ever seen."
Mayes says Ecton would never put her daughter in harm's way.
"She was her life," Mayes said. "She was her reason to wake up every morning."
Police say it is not yet clear how the infant ingested the methadone.
The Blacks are both being held on $250,000 cash bonds.
