Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates will hold a special presentation on the front lawn of Clark Regional Medical Center tomorrow, Wednesday, June 12 beginning at 12:00 p.m. The presentation will be held to celebrate Clark Regional Medical Center’s recipient of the 2012 Excellence of Tissue Donation. For the third year in a row CRMC has one of the top tissue donation rate in the state of Kentucky. In 2012 CRMC had a fifty percent conversion rate compared to an average of 20% around the state.
Nearly 1000 Kentucky residents are waiting to receive life-saving hearts, livers, lungs, kidneys and other organs. Last year in Kentucky, more than 300 people donated organs, tissue, and corneas, resulting in the “Gift of Life and Sight” for over thousands of individuals. However, 18 people die every day in the U.S. waiting for an organ transplant and the national waiting list currently is more than 117,000 people.
