Kentucky celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated on the third Monday in January, although Dr. King was actually born on the 15th of January 1929. Today many Kentucky communities are hosting events in honor of Dr. King. A few of those activities are listed below.

LEXINGTON (January 21st):

Unity: A Continuous March Toward Equality 19th Annual Unity Breakfast. 6:30-9:30 a.m. Jan. 21. Lexington Center Heritage Hall West. Featured speakers: Tom Shelton, education; Wilbert W. James, spiritualism; Patrice Muhammad, civil rights; and Virginia Carter, humantarianism.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Freedom March
(Participants should line up beginning at 9:00 a.m. inside the corridor of downtown Lexington Center, Heritage Hall on West Main Street. Departure from downtown Lexington Center Heritage Hall will begin at 10:00 a.m.)

WINCHESTER:

The 2013 MLK March and Celebration will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 204 S. Main Street, Winchester, KY 40391, where Rev James Williams is the Pastor. The march will be in front of the court house at 6:00 PM. The celebration will be immediately following the march or at 6:15 PM.

GEORGETOWN:
MLK march starts at Ed Davis park at 4 PM; services at 5 PM at Chambers Avenue Christian Church
