CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A man was found dead in his home, and police say it appears the home was set on fire.
It happened early Sunday morning on East Broadway in Winchester.
The flames were so intense it melted the siding on some nearby apartments.
"I looked out and I saw nothing but red, the whole back of the house was nothing but a big fireball," said Rosie Mayzes who lived next to the home and knew the man who died, 50-year-old Kenny Payton.
Kentucky State Police arson investigators spent most of the day at the home. They say the fire appears to have been intentionally set and they've charged 23-year-old Aaron Spencer with arson. They say Spencer had been living at the home with Payton and his girlfriend.
A separate investigation into the cause of Payton's death is also underway.
Payton's neighbor says she knows he was alive at least a few hours before the fire started.
"I heard him arguing with somebody," Mayzes said.
An autopsy is scheduled on Payton.
Aaron Spencer was arraigned in Clark County District Court Monday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to first degree arson.
He's scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing October 31st.
