An Indiana man is arrested in central Kentucky after police say he crashed a stolen car during a police chase.
A Winchester Police officer spotted Thomas Townsend leaving Dotson Motors in Winchester around six this morning.
Police say Townsend led them on a low speed chase until he crashed into a truck on the Winchester bypass. The other driver wasn't injured but Townsend was taken to Clark Regional Hospital for treatment. Police say the car Townsend was driving was stolen from Dotson Motors. The man who owned the car says he was supposed to be there about the time the chase started but had gone out for coffee.
"He was in a serious crash, two people could have been killed but all that happened was a car was wrecked. I'm thankful." said Lester Robb, the sales manager at Dotson Motor Sales.
Police discovered Townsend was already wanted, out of Indiana. Police there were looking for him for violating his probation in connection with a 2002 conviction for attempted murder and battery.
Townsend faces DUI, wanton endangerment, fleeing and evading and receiving stolen property charges in Winchester.
Townsend was released from the hospital this morning. He's currently in the Clark County Jail. Police say they are beginning the process of extraditing him back to Indiana.
